As India embraces many religions and traditions, so it guarantees that there must always be a reason for celebration. The events and festivals in India are incredible and full of color and splendor. These are decided according to the lunar calendar. During these colorful events people of all castes, sects and religions come together and join in the revelry.  These events and festivals bring out the true colors of the rich Indian culture and play an important role in attracting tourists to the country. 

The multicolored fairs and festivals of India are the main magnetism to the country. It echoes the vivacious background and tradition of India. During these colorful events processions are held, prayers are offered, gifts are exchanged and people celebrate it by dancing, singing and feasting.

The events and festivals are either for the alteration of seasons or related with a religious character. For example Mewar Festival and Holi are celebrated to welcome the arrival of spring season. Teej festival of Rajasthan is celebrated for the commencement of the monsoon. 

India is mainly an agriculture oriented country and to celebrate harvest, we Indians have many festivals to celebrate. Be it Lohri in Punjab, Pongal in the southern part of India or Sankranti in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar or Onam in Kerala and Bihu in Assam. 

There are innumerable Hindu festivals to celebrate such as Dussehra, Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas, Janmastami, Eid-ul-Fitr, Basant Panchami, Ram Navami, Rath Yatra, Karva Chauth, Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiduj and Guru Nanak Jayanti. 

The spring season is marked by another major Hindu festival, Holi also known as Vasant Panchami in some states. The harshness of the summers gets mellowed with the festivals of Baisakhi and Buddha Purnima. 

The festivals of Christian like Good Friday, Christmas and New Year are participated by one and all. Muslims celebrate Muharram, Id-ul-Fitr and Bakri Id with equal enthusiasm and zest.

From time to time there are large numbers of fairs that are held in India. People from all over the country and world come to participate in these fairs. Pushkar Fair, Ajmer Fair and Surajkund Crafts Fair are few well-known fairs of India. 

Kumbh Mela and colorful Goa Carnival are well-liked amongst the local people as well as the travelers from all over the places.
